The best thing about your career
I embrace diversity and enjoy all aspects of working with diverse companies and cultures, and mixed with travel I find that no day is the same. This provides some fantastic challenges and leaves no room for boredom.
Why you think being out is important
Visibility of our LGBT+ community is crucial in the workplace as it is in all walks of life. For acceptance and understanding we should be open about being who we are as individuals in order to educate and pave the way for the next generation. Being open and honest about who we are as individuals we show how proud we are of our beautiful community, leading the way for others to follow and educating others about acceptance. More importantly we can been seen as a little ray of light to those for those who feel frightened and alone in the dark struggling with their own inner battles.
How and what was the reaction to you coming out
Being open and out in the workplace I have received nothing but positive reactions from colleagues and developed more connections. Not being my authentic self in the work environment wouldn’t be possible for me as in order to build any relationships honesty is the first step. Being closeted in the work environment suffocates talent and quality. It hides the best parts of people and, in some cases, can sadly lead to mental health issues.
In order to change the challenges we have as women in our professional lives we need to embrace who we are to move forwards. I believe to create and achieve incredible things you need diversity to get a mixture of talents and ideas that have never been created before.
I am very proud to be an ambassador of LBWomen as together we can lead the way and drive visibility, moving and empowering each other to inspire the next generation.
